MATS March assignment Abstract Pattern for a backpack

My completed piece for the Make Art That Sells March assignment (backpack for the Gift Market).

I have been pretty busy the last few weeks completing the Make Art That Sells (MATS) assignment. The course is run by Lilla Rogers who is an American art agent and the courses really help to push you creative boundaries as well as being a lot of fun!!!

Anyone interested in her courses can find out more information And details here. Plus she also has other art courses too such as Home Decor and Illustrating Children’s books. All the details can be found on her website.

So for this assignment (March), we were asked to create an abstract pattern to go onto a backpack for the Gift market. I throughly enjoyed this assignment as it was similar to the art i create for myself and therefore it felt like an extension of my personal work.

I started off by doing some mark making with a black brush pen. Nothing too fancy, just different marks, in different line thicknesses etc and just had fun creating.

These marks would go over the top of my planned watercolour background. Below are some i ages showing how i completed my design and how i added white gel pen over the top of black gouache paint.
